In a disappointing 40-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers failed to reach his 500th career touchdown pass and instead achieved an unfortunate milestone: becoming the most sacked quarterback in NFL history. Rodgers endured four sacks in the game, bringing his career total to 568 across 247 games. This surpasses Tom Brady's 565 sacks and places Rodgers just ahead of Russell Wilson, who has been sacked 556 times.

This dubious record comes with a caveat: sacks weren’t officially tracked by the NFL until 1982. While researchers have retroactively tallied sack totals, Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton is widely considered the unofficial leader in sacks taken, having played his entire career before the statistic became official.

With one game remaining in the 2024 season, Rodgers has a chance to surpass Tarkenton’s unofficial total. The Jets will host the Miami Dolphins in their final game, giving Rodgers another opportunity to add to his sack count, which currently stands at 37 for the season. He previously led the league in sacks taken twice during his tenure with the Green Bay Packers, enduring 51 sacks in 2012 and 50 in 2010.

The loss drops the Jets to a 4-12 record, extending their playoff drought to 14 seasons. Their last winning season came in 2015.
