The late actor Ray Liotta earned a posthumous Emmy nomination for his supporting role in the Apple TV+ crime drama "Black Bird." His daughter, Karsen Liotta, expressed gratitude for the Television Academy's recognition of her father's work, emphasizing how much the nomination would have meant to him. She shared her pride on her Instagram story, echoing the sentiments of Liotta's fiancée, Jacy Nittolo, who deemed the nomination "well deserved."

In "Black Bird," Liotta portrayed the father of the main character, Jimmy Keene, played by Taron Egerton. The series revolves around Keene, a drug dealer who strikes a deal with the FBI to befriend a suspected serial killer, Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser), in exchange for his freedom. Both Egerton and Hauser also received Emmy nominations for their respective roles, and the show garnered a nomination for cinematography.

"Black Bird" draws inspiration from real events. Liotta passed away in his sleep on May 26, 2022, while filming "Dangerous Waters" in the Dominican Republic. Nittolo reflected on the anniversary of his death on Instagram, describing the past year as a period of grief, healing, and acceptance. She acknowledged the ongoing pain of the loss while expressing gratitude for the support of Karsen and other loved ones.
