A Maryland resident was apprehended after allegedly impersonating a law enforcement officer and conducting a traffic stop on an unsuspecting driver who subsequently contacted the authorities.
The incident unfolded on July 8th on the Greenbelt Road off-ramp at 201 Northbound in Greenbelt, Maryland. According to the victim's account to Greenbelt Police, 47-year-old Carl Colston tailed him in a black Crown Victoria, honking and flashing the vehicle's white interior lights.
The victim signaled for Colston to pass, but instead of complying, Colston drove past while displaying a badge. He then abruptly stopped, forcing the victim to also brake. Colston subsequently positioned his car behind the victim, mimicking a standard police traffic stop procedure.

The victim reported that Colston donned a Maryland Marshal tactical vest, flashed a badge, and identified himself as a police officer. He even used a handheld radio, seemingly to call for backup. Colston then revealed a black pistol, holding it visibly but not pointing it at the victim.
Upon being informed that he was being recorded and that the police had been contacted, Colston retreated to his vehicle and fled the scene.

Law enforcement apprehended Colston several days later, on July 13th, during a traffic stop. Authorities are encouraging anyone who may have encountered Colston impersonating an officer to contact the Greenbelt Police Department.
