Newly released video footage from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) offers a sobering look at the aftermath of the January 31st plane crash in Philadelphia. The Learjet 55 crash, which tragically resulted in seven fatalities and 22 injuries, left a scene of devastation captured in the video shot on Sunday.
The footage reveals debris-strewn streets, eerily deserted and cordoned off with yellow tape. Abandoned vehicles and construction barriers further underscore the gravity of the incident. One official can be seen inspecting the rubble within a crater-like impact zone. Drone footage provides a broader perspective, showcasing damaged cars covered in ash, parked a significant distance from the main crash site.

A significant development in the investigation is the recovery of the cockpit voice recorder (CVR), found eight feet beneath the initial impact point. The NTSB also located the aircraft's enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS), which may contain crucial flight data. Both devices have been sent to the NTSB Vehicle Recorders Laboratory in Washington, D.C. for analysis. The recovery effort continues, with the wreckage being transported to a secure location in Delaware for further examination.
The medevac jet crashed near the Roosevelt Mall around 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Originating from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, the plane was destined for Missouri for refueling before its final destination in Mexico. A Jet Air Ambulance spokesperson confirmed that a young Mexican girl, who had been receiving medical treatment in the U.S., was on board with her mother. The flight carried six individuals, including four crew members.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker reported 22 injuries, with one fatality occurring in a car struck by the plane. Five of the injured remain hospitalized, three in critical condition. Out of respect for the families involved, the names of the victims have not been released.
The crash sparked immediate fires, which were eventually brought under control by Philadelphia fire officials. The jet, carrying a substantial amount of highly flammable jet fuel, presented a significant fire hazard. The pilot and co-pilot were described as highly experienced professionals with extensive flight experience.
