Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, speaking at the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., shared her vision for a "conservative revolution" in the United Kingdom, drawing inspiration from President Donald Trump's second term. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Truss expressed admiration for Trump's agenda and the Department of Government Efficiency, highlighting a desire for similar transparency and accountability within British government spending.
Truss praised Elon Musk's DOGE initiative as a potential model for the UK, suggesting it offered a "fantastic playbook" for streamlining government operations. However, she acknowledged the unlikelihood of such a program under the current leadership of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, criticizing the government as "defenders of the deep state." Truss emphasized the need for a change in government to implement such reforms, closely observing Musk's approach.

Truss went so far as to call Musk "the leader of the opposition in Britain," citing his online challenges to Starmer's policies and his engagement with sensitive social issues. She credited Musk and Trump's effective use of social media and independent media as inspiration for her own plans to establish a "new free speech media network" in the UK, aiming to combat what she sees as a growing problem with free speech restrictions.

Drawing parallels with Trump's 2024 campaign strategy, Truss underscored the importance of independent media in driving political change. She stated her attendance at CPAC was to learn from the American "conservative revolution" led by Trump and to explore how to replicate its success in Britain. Truss expressed agreement with Trump on a range of policy issues, from immigration and tax cuts to energy policy and social issues, advocating for similar measures in the UK and a shake-up of the British bureaucracy.

Truss also mentioned engaging with other world leaders at CPAC to discuss conservative strategies and economic policies. Despite her brief and turbulent tenure as prime minister in 2022, which ended in resignation after 49 days, Truss remains active in promoting her political vision. Meanwhile, a UK equivalent of the DOGE movement, known as The Procurement Files, has emerged on social media, scrutinizing government spending and echoing calls for greater transparency and accountability. While conservative leaders express concerns about government efficiency, the HM Treasury maintains it has implemented initiatives to address waste and ensure value for taxpayer money.
