Ball rose to prominence alongside his eldest son Lonzo's burgeoning basketball career, first at UCLA and then as the second overall pick in the NBA draft. The patriarch's pronouncements and unwavering belief in his sons' abilities became a hallmark of their rise in the sport.

Ball's pronouncements extended beyond the basketball court, including a claim that he could defeat Michael Jordan in a one-on-one matchup and even appearances in the WWE. He is also the CEO of the Big Baller Brand, a clothing and shoe company closely associated with his sons.

While Lonzo Ball currently plays for the Chicago Bulls, LaMelo Ball, the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, has emerged as a star for the Charlotte Hornets. He's currently averaging impressive numbers in his fifth NBA season. LiAngelo Ball, the middle brother, has also pursued a career in basketball and recently gained attention for his music.

Before his involvement in the basketball world, LaVar Ball briefly spent time on the practice squads of the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers in the NFL. He never played in a regular season game.
