Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, a Democrat, has hinted at a potential run for Georgia governor in 2026. In a recent interview with Fox 5 Atlanta, Bottoms, who served in the Biden administration, expressed serious consideration for the role but emphasized her current focus on completing ongoing projects, including a new book.

During the interview, Bottoms also addressed criticism regarding her decision not to seek re-election as Atlanta's mayor in 2021. She clarified that she fulfilled her elected four-year term, highlighting that mayoral terms are not automatically eight years unless specified. She also discussed her recent departure from the White House, where she served on President Biden's Export Council, and clarified the timeline of her resignation, which predated claims made by former President Trump.

Furthermore, Bottoms expressed concerns about the current administration's deportation policies, drawing parallels to family separation issues she encountered as Atlanta's mayor. She questioned the focus on deporting individuals without violent criminal records.

Prior to her role on the Export Council, Bottoms held the position of Senior Advisor to President Biden and Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement from July 2022 to April 2023.
