O’Neill finished the game with three tackles, including the memorable sack, contributing to James Madison's 27-17 victory. Following the game, he expressed his elation to ESPN, describing the win as “surreal” and “probably the best moment of my life.” He highlighted the team's composition of overlooked players who achieved unexpected success, culminating in a 9-4 season and a bowl game victory.

When asked about his unique celebration, O’Neill explained his affinity for UFC and acknowledged the potential for provoking offensive linemen. He referenced the celebration as something inspired by his interest in mixed martial arts, understanding it might not be appreciated by opponents.

This victory marked the Dukes' first bowl game win since transitioning to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in 2022. After coach Curt Cignetti's departure to Indiana, Bob Chesney stepped in to lead the team, guiding them to this milestone achievement.
