Hostin's Claim About Trump and Egg Prices Challenged

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

During a recent episode of "The View," co-host Sunny Hostin asserted that Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign overlooked the issue of high egg prices. Hostin expressed concern that voters prioritized "kitchen table issues" over what she perceived as threats to democracy, claiming Trump hadn't addressed fundamental economic concerns like egg prices. "Most people are saying, ‘Well this was a kitchen table issue, this was about the cost of eggs.' Donald Trump never talked about the price of eggs," Hostin stated.

However, evidence suggests Trump did address rising egg prices during his campaign. In September, he shared an infographic on Truth Social highlighting increased grocery costs under the Biden administration compared to his own. This graphic included data showing a $2 increase in the price of a case of eggs. Furthermore, during a Pennsylvania campaign stop that same month, then-vice presidential candidate JD Vance discussed the impact of inflation on egg prices, attributing the rise to the current administration's policies. Trump also discussed the financial burdens of rising egg prices alongside other economic challenges during an October interview with Dave Ramsey.

Hostin's comments coincided with the dismissal of federal charges against Trump related to alleged 2020 election interference. She argued that this dismissal undermined voters who considered the preservation of democracy a paramount concern, referencing exit polls indicating that 92% of Black female voters who supported Kamala Harris ranked January 6th and the "fall of democracy" as their top issue. Hostin also noted that all six co-hosts of "The View" voted for Kamala Harris.
