Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck's SEC Championship game ended prematurely on Saturday due to a hand injury sustained just before halftime. With the Bulldogs trailing Texas 6-3 and one second remaining in the second quarter, Beck suffered the injury while attempting a deep pass. He received immediate medical attention on the field and was able to walk off under his own power, but it was evident he was in discomfort.

Initially, Georgia coach Kirby Smart indicated to ESPN that the injury might not sideline Beck. However, backup quarterback Gunner Stockton took the field to start the second half, and Smart subsequently confirmed to ESPN that Beck would not return to the game.

Beck's performance prior to the injury had been challenging, with the Bulldogs managing only a single field goal. Texas, led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, also struggled offensively, converting just two field goals. A loss in this game would mark Georgia's third defeat of the season, a first since 2018. It would also represent their first loss to a team other than Alabama since falling to Ole Miss in 2020.

Beck is projected as a potential early-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft in April.
