Georgia's Governor Brian Kemp, currently leading the Republican Governors Association (RGA), is navigating a busy schedule amidst speculation about a potential Senate bid in 2026. While many Republicans see him as a strong challenger to Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, Kemp remains focused on his current responsibilities.
In a recent interview, Kemp acknowledged the importance of flipping the Senate seat, stating his belief that a Republican will hold it after the next election. However, he emphasized his commitment to the ongoing legislative session in Georgia and his role as RGA chair. He's currently engaged in a significant legislative battle concerning tort reform and recognizes the demands of leading the RGA.

Kemp's leadership within the RGA involves extensive fundraising and candidate recruitment efforts across the country. He highlighted his travel to various states, including Florida, Texas, California, and his continued work in Washington D.C. His goal is to expand the organization, broaden its donor network, and underscore the vital role Republican governors play in shaping policy.

While Kemp's decision regarding the Senate race remains pending, several other Republicans have expressed interest should he decline to run. This list includes Representatives Buddy Carter, Rich McCormick, Mike Collins, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and State Insurance Commissioner John King. Polls suggest Kemp holds an advantage over Ossoff in a potential matchup.

The RGA successfully maintained its majority hold on governorships in the 2024 elections. This year, New Jersey and Virginia are the only states with gubernatorial elections, drawing significant national attention. A competitive Republican primary is unfolding in New Jersey, while in Virginia, Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears seeks to become the state's first female governor and the nation's first Black female governor.

Kemp emphasized the continuous work required to support Republican gubernatorial candidates nationwide. He stressed the importance of having the necessary resources and strategic plans to ensure the election of effective Republican governors across the country.
