On Christmas Day, a 78-year-old Florida man, Jonathan McPhee, was taken into custody following an alleged attempt to kill his wife and himself. Police responded to a 911 call from the couple's residence on Pine Cone Way, where McPhee confessed to assaulting his wife and intending to take his own life.

Upon arrival, officers discovered McPhee with self-inflicted stab wounds and his wife suffering from blunt force trauma. Both were rushed to a local hospital and remain in critical condition. During medical treatment, McPhee reportedly declared his responsibility for the attack on his wife.

McPhee is also alleged to have sent a text message to his wife's daughter, confessing to the assault and citing financial and health struggles as the motivation behind his actions. The message reportedly included details about funeral arrangements and life insurance.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released further details at this time.
