Former EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has brought to light a significant climate grant awarded by the Biden administration, raising concerns about potential misuse of taxpayer funds. The $2 billion grant was allocated to Power Forward Communities, a non-profit organization with connections to prominent Democrat Stacey Abrams.
The EPA under the previous administration revealed that eight entities were entrusted with distributing $20 billion in taxpayer money with considerable discretion. Power Forward Communities, which focuses on mitigating climate impact through green appliance replacements in lower-income households, received a substantial portion of these funds.
Reports indicate that Abrams, a former gubernatorial candidate in Georgia, played a key role in the establishment of Power Forward Communities. This connection has drawn scrutiny, especially given the organization's relatively limited financial activity prior to receiving the grant. Zeldin questioned the allocation, suggesting that funds could be better utilized for direct environmental remediation rather than directed towards politically connected groups.

The $2 billion grant was earmarked for decarbonizing homes in low-income communities, covering expenses for appliances like water heaters, induction stoves, solar panels, EV chargers, and weatherization. Zeldin highlighted the stark contrast between the organization's reported $100 revenue in 2023 and the substantial grant received the following year.

The tight deadlines imposed on the organization – 21 days for distribution and 90 days for budget training – further fueled Zeldin's concerns. He argued that budget training should precede spending, especially at such a large scale, and labeled the overall process as potentially fraudulent and wasteful.

Beyond the grant to Power Forward Communities, Zeldin also pointed to a potential conflict of interest involving a $5 billion payment to the former director of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund under the Biden administration. He suggested a pattern of directing funds towards allies on the political left.
The initial report on the $2 billion grant came from the Washington Free Beacon, and Fox News Digital has reached out to involved parties for comment.
