District Attorney Indicted for Reckless Endangerment After Firing Shots at Fleeing Suspect

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Tennessee District Attorney Christopher Robert Stanford faces a reckless endangerment charge after a grand jury indictment. The charge stems from a November 21 incident where Stanford allegedly fired shots at a fleeing suspect, with bullets striking a nearby home occupied by a woman and three children. Thankfully, no injuries were reported inside the residence.

The indictment details how Stanford "unlawfully, intentionally and recklessly" discharged his weapon, with bullets penetrating a chair on the porch and a living room wall, posing a significant threat to the home's occupants. The suspect Stanford was pursuing, Caleb Brookins, was wanted in connection with a triple homicide that occurred the previous day.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) launched an investigation into the incident involving Stanford, who allegedly fired the shots while attempting to apprehend Brookins. Another individual, Hannah Rose, was also involved, driving the vehicle in which Brookins was found. A Homeland Security officer sustained injuries during Brookins' arrest.

Brookins and another suspect, Jessica Root, face three counts of criminal homicide. Rose has been charged with aggravated assault and felony evading arrest for allegedly striking a law enforcement officer with her vehicle while attempting to escape. Stanford surrendered to authorities and was released on a $10,000 bond.
