Dan Bongino Appointed FBI Deputy Director by Trump

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

Former Fox News host and conservative commentator Dan Bongino has been named the new deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) by former President Donald Trump. Trump made the announcement Sunday night on Truth Social, praising Bongino's "incredible love and passion for our Country."

Trump highlighted Bongino's academic credentials, including a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the City University of New York and an MBA from Penn State. He also mentioned Bongino's prior experience with the New York Police Department and the United States Secret Service, as well as his successful podcasting career, which he is reportedly willing to leave behind for this new role.

Trump expressed confidence that Bongino, working alongside newly appointed Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, will restore "Fairness, Justice, Law and Order" to America. He also acknowledged Bongino's family, including his wife Paula and two daughters.

Bongino responded to the announcement on X, thanking Trump, Bondi, and Patel. Patel's recent confirmation as FBI director followed a close Senate vote. Patel, known for his opposition to investigations into Trump and his involvement in the 2020 election fraud claims, assured the Senate during his confirmation hearing that he wouldn't pursue political retribution. However, his appointment has drawn scrutiny regarding potential politicization within the FBI.

Patel served in several national security positions under the Trump administration, including chief of staff to acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller, senior advisor to the acting director of national intelligence, and a role on the National Security Council.
