Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underwent surgery for a brain hemorrhage early Tuesday morning, according to a statement from Sirio-Libanes hospital in Sao Paulo. The 79-year-old leader was experiencing headaches believed to be related to a fall he suffered at his home in October. He traveled from the capital, Brasilia, to Sao Paulo for the procedure.
The hospital reported that Lula is currently stable and under observation in the intensive care unit. Doctors successfully drained the bleeding. A press conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. local time to provide further updates on his condition.
This health emergency follows a recent incident involving the First Lady, Janja Lula da Silva, who made a controversial remark about entrepreneur Elon Musk over the weekend. While attending a pre-G20 event, she stated that she was "not afraid" of him.

Brazil's presidency has not yet released an official statement regarding Lula's surgery.
