Following Lively's initial complaint of sexual harassment, retaliation, and emotional distress against Baldoni, Sklenar encouraged his social media followers to familiarize themselves with the lawsuit. Fellow co-star Jenny Slate also voiced her support for Lively, commending her bravery and standing by her friend amidst the legal battle. Slate praised Lively as a leader and source of support, expressing concern over the disturbing nature of the allegations.

In the film, Slate portrays Allysa, Baldoni’s character's sister and Lively's character's sister-in-law. Sklenar plays an older version of Atlas Corrigan, a past love interest of Lively’s character. The legal situation escalated with Baldoni filing a lawsuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, alleging civil extortion and defamation, and releasing unedited footage from the film set. Lively's legal team contends this footage supports her claims. The legal teams have been instructed by a judge to adhere to New York's Rules of Professional Conduct regarding statements to the press, which restrict comments that could prejudice a jury.
