In her inaugural interview as the 87th United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi affirmed her commitment to restoring the core functions of government and law enforcement. Speaking on "Hannity," she emphasized a focus on prosecuting violent criminals and ensuring public safety. Bondi's appointment comes amidst a renewed effort to address the challenges posed by sanctuary cities and the enforcement of immigration laws.
The Department of Justice, under Bondi's leadership, has initiated legal action against Illinois, Chicago, Governor J.B. Pritzker, and Mayor Brandon Johnson. The lawsuit alleges obstruction of federal immigration law enforcement, claiming their actions have led to the release of numerous individuals who should have been detained for deportation. The DOJ contends that these officials have prioritized the interests of undocumented immigrants over the safety and security of their citizens and law enforcement personnel.

Bondi's actions extend beyond litigation. She recently signed a memorandum freezing federal funding to sanctuary cities pending a comprehensive review. This move underscores the administration's determination to hold these jurisdictions accountable for their non-compliance with federal immigration laws. The Attorney General indicated that the DOJ will collaborate with the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies to ensure the prosecution of gang members and drug traffickers.

Bondi stressed the importance of ethical conduct and adherence to the law within the DOJ, contrasting the new administration's approach with what she described as the "weaponization" of government under previous leadership. She expressed confidence that the Trump administration will restore fairness and integrity to the justice system.
