Four Connecticut Democratic representatives reported receiving bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving Day, raising concerns about escalating political tensions. The threats, which were deemed unfounded after investigations by local and Capitol Police, follow similar incidents targeting several of President-elect Trump's Cabinet nominees and appointees earlier in the week.
Representatives Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, and John Larson all confirmed the threats targeting their residences. Himes, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, emphasized the importance of civility and condemned political violence. Hayes expressed gratitude for the swift response of law enforcement, echoing Himes's sentiment against political violence.
Courtney's spokesperson confirmed that no explosives were found at his property and thanked law enforcement for their prompt action. Larson also released a statement confirming his family's safety after police investigated the threat at his home.
These incidents come on the heels of similar threats directed at Trump's Cabinet picks, including reported threats against John Ratcliffe (CIA director nominee), Pete Hegseth (Defense Secretary nominee), Elise Stefanik (UN ambassador nominee), Brooke Rollins (Agriculture Secretary nominee), and Lee Zeldin (EPA administrator nominee). The nature of these threats reportedly ranged from bomb scares to "swatting" incidents.
