Former Freedom Caucus Chair and staunch Trump ally, Congressman Andy Biggs of Arizona, has signaled his potential candidacy for governor in 2026. Biggs recently filed a statement of interest, a preliminary step towards gathering the necessary signatures for ballot qualification. While this move doesn't guarantee a full-fledged campaign, Biggs expressed his commitment to Arizona's future on social media, stating his desire to leverage his experience to help the state reach its full potential.

Biggs's political background includes leading the Freedom Caucus from 2019 to 2021 and playing a key role in the 2023 removal of then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. A potential gubernatorial run could set the stage for a contest with Karrin Taylor Robson, another prominent Trump supporter, whom Trump publicly encouraged to run for governor at a recent event in Phoenix. Robson previously vied for the governorship in 2022, losing to Kari Lake in the primary, who subsequently lost the general election to incumbent Katie Hobbs. Lake recently lost a bid for the U.S. Senate.

Biggs acknowledged the significance of his decision, stating he's looking forward to discussing the matter with Arizonans. He has already received an endorsement from State Senator Jake Hoffman, the founding chair of the Arizona Freedom Caucus, who praised Biggs's potential leadership on social media.
