Former President Donald Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening border security during a White House meeting. Abbott's press secretary, Andrew Mahaleris, confirmed the meeting's focus on the ongoing collaboration between the two leaders to secure the southern border. Prior to his discussion with Trump, Governor Abbott conferred with Tom Homan, the former president's border security advisor.

Abbott expressed his anticipation for the meeting on social media, highlighting his earlier conversation with Homan regarding immigration enforcement tactics. He underscored Texas's significant investment in border security under Operation Lone Star, amounting to billions of dollars over the past few years. The state legislature, predominantly Republican, is now proposing an additional $6.5 million to further implement Trump's border and immigration policies.

In a groundbreaking move, Governor Abbott recently empowered Texas National Guard members to apprehend undocumented immigrants, working in conjunction with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. During his inauguration speech last month, Trump commended Abbott's performance on border security, promising a collaborative partnership moving forward.
