Pirates Call Up Top Prospect Henry Davis Amidst Losing Streak

Created: JANUARY 21, 2025

The Pittsburgh Pirates are bringing up their highly anticipated prospect, Henry Davis, the first overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft. This move comes as the team attempts to break a six-game losing streak that has seen them fall from the top of the NL Central.

Following a 5-2 loss to the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, Pirates manager Derek Shelton announced that Davis, who has experience at both catcher and outfield, will join the team in Pittsburgh on Monday for their upcoming series against the Chicago Cubs.

Shelton expressed his excitement about Davis's promotion, stating, "He's earned this opportunity. He's demonstrated his readiness. We'll discuss the specifics further tomorrow, but our current catchers will remain with the team, so we'll find different ways to utilize Davis."
