Star footballer Kylian Mbappé has informed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) that he will not activate the one-year extension clause in his contract, setting the stage for his departure in 2024. According to reports from L’Equipe, Mbappé formally communicated his decision to the club on Monday. However, Mbappé clarified via AFP that PSG has been aware of his intentions since last summer.

"I informed the club of my decision back on July 15, 2022, not to extend my contract beyond 2024. This recent letter simply serves as confirmation of what I've already told them," Mbappé stated.

This announcement has ignited a flurry of interest from clubs around the world, eager to acquire the 24-year-old talent. Real Madrid, a long-time admirer of Mbappé, is reportedly prepared to make an offer this summer rather than wait for him to become a free agent next year, according to ESPN. The anticipated transfer fee is estimated to be around 150 million euros, a substantial sum that would significantly benefit PSG.

Despite the widespread speculation about his future, Mbappé took to Twitter to address rumors suggesting he desires a move to Real Madrid. He refuted these claims, stating emphatically, "LIES. The bigger the lie, the more it spreads. I've already confirmed that I'll be playing for PSG next season, where I'm very happy." However, PSG seems prepared to part ways with Mbappé and seek compensation now that his decision is public.

Mbappé's announcement follows recent departures and changes within PSG. Lionel Messi's move to Inter Miami and Sergio Ramos's exit, coupled with the ongoing search for a new head coach, mark a period of transition for the club. Losing Mbappé, captain of the French national team and a key player in their World Cup run, would be a significant blow.
