Star baseball player Mike Trout's season took a concerning turn Monday night when a wrist injury forced him to leave the game against the San Diego Padres. In the eighth inning, Trout grimaced after fouling off a pitch from Nick Martinez, clutching his left wrist. Los Angeles Angels manager Phil Nevin and a trainer quickly attended to him, and he subsequently exited the game.
Following the game, Trout expressed his concern, stating, "I just took a swing and something felt uncomfortable. I'm waiting for scans and hoping for the best. It doesn't feel good. I’ve never experienced this type of pain before. I’ve never had any wrist issues. It's just one of those freak things."
Until this incident, Trout had enjoyed a healthy season and had been selected for his 11th All-Star appearance. If the injury requires him to be placed on the injured list, Jo Adell is expected to fill his spot. Manager Nevin acknowledged the team's depth and expressed confidence in the "next man up" philosophy. He stated that the situation would provide an opportunity for other players to step up, depending on the results of Trout's tests.
The Angels ultimately lost to the Padres 10-3. Before exiting, Trout went 2-for-4, bringing his season statistics to .263 batting average, .862 OPS, and 18 home runs in 81 games. Last year, he hit 40 home runs in 119 games.
