The White House has strongly criticized a distressing hostage video released by Hamas, depicting American-Israeli citizen Edan Alexander. The video shows the 20-year-old visibly upset and captive. Alexander, serving in the Israel Defense Forces, was abducted during the October 7th attacks.

National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett confirmed the White House's awareness of the video and stated they are in contact with Alexander's family. He labeled the video a stark reminder of Hamas's terrorism, affecting citizens of numerous nations, including the United States.

Savett emphasized that the ongoing conflict in Gaza could cease immediately if Hamas released the hostages. He reiterated President Biden's commitment to securing their freedom, ending hostilities, and providing humanitarian aid to Gaza. The President is dedicated to working tirelessly towards this goal.

This video's release follows a recent 60-day ceasefire agreement between the IDF and Hezbollah in Lebanon. During the announcement, President Biden highlighted Hamas's persistent refusal to engage in productive ceasefire and hostage negotiations. He underscored the immense suffering of Gazan civilians.

Last month, Alexander's parents, Yael and Adi Alexander, shared their story on "Fox & Friends," recounting their meeting with former President Trump and relaying information from individuals rescued from the tunnels who had seen Edan and confirmed his attempts to reassure fellow captives.
