Following the reopening ceremony of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, President-elect Donald Trump and Prince William engaged in discussions about the enduring relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. The two leaders, who both attended the cathedral's rededication, first exchanged greetings at the ceremony itself, alongside other international figures like French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. First Lady Jill Biden represented the United States at the event.
After the ceremony, Trump and Prince William continued their conversation at the British Embassy in Paris. Prince William's presence at the Notre Dame reopening was specifically as a representative of the UK, highlighting the importance of the event for both nations. The subsequent meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the 'special relationship' between the two countries, a cornerstone of their respective foreign policies.

This marked the first meeting between Trump and Prince William since Trump's recent election victory. Their previous encounter took place in 2019 during Trump's state visit to the UK. Prince William also met with President Biden in 2022 during a visit related to the Earthshot Prize.

During Trump's 2019 UK visit, he also met with then-Prince Charles, now King Charles. Clarence House described their interaction at the time as reflecting a "good working relationship." Trump later recounted a lengthy conversation with Charles about environmental issues, exceeding their planned 15-minute meeting. Trump expressed admiration for Charles' commitment to climate change and ensuring a healthy environment for future generations.

King Charles reached out to Trump last summer following an assassination attempt on the former president. Trump's 2019 UK trip also included a meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The Notre Dame Cathedral, a significant landmark in Paris, has undergone extensive renovations following a devastating fire in 2019.
