Another individual has been apprehended in connection with the illegal betting operation that led to Jontay Porter's lifetime ban from the NBA, bringing the total number of arrests to six.
Porter, who is also entangled in legal proceedings, was expelled from the league after it came to light that he wagered on NBA games and participated in a scheme where collaborators profited from information he provided.
Recent court filings revealed text messages from Porter to those involved, including one suggesting that betting against his own performance statistics would yield substantial returns.

In a text message sent to Shane Hennen, the latest individual arrested, before a Raptors game on January 26th, Porter reportedly wrote, "No blocks no steals. I’m going to play first 2-3 minute stint off the bench then when I get subbed out tell them my eye killing me again."
Hennen was detained at a Las Vegas airport on Sunday as he attempted to board a one-way flight to Colombia.
In another text from earlier in January, Porter allegedly stated, "I went back to the locker room to get eye checked on. Idk if imma play much more. I'm Not starting second half. But if it's garbage time I will shoot a million shots."
Porter has admitted to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and could face over two decades in prison, though prosecutors anticipate a sentence closer to four years. His sentencing is scheduled for May 20th.
During a July court appearance, Porter confessed to intentionally exiting games early to escape substantial gambling debts, enabling him and his accomplices to win bets placed on his performance. He expressed remorse, stating, "I know what I did was wrong, unlawful, and I am deeply sorry."

An NBA investigation concluded that between January and March of this year, while Porter was affiliated with the Raptors or their G League team, he placed at least 13 bets on NBA games through an associate's account, leading to his lifetime ban on April 17th.
Porter's attorney, Jeff Jensen, previously mentioned that Porter was struggling with a gambling addiction and was actively seeking treatment and cooperating with authorities.

One of Porter's brothers, Coban, is currently serving a six-year prison term for a fatal DUI accident, while another brother, Michael, plays for the Denver Nuggets.
