Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

With Super Bowl LIX just around the corner, excitement is building not only for the game itself but also for the record-breaking $1.39 billion in legal sports bets expected across the US, according to the American Gaming Association (AGA). As legal sports betting expands into more states, responsible gaming takes center stage.

Former New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram partnered with the AGA to promote responsible betting practices for the Super Bowl. Ingram emphasized the importance of having a budget and sticking to it. "Bet legally, have fun, and don't harass players if your bets don't pan out," he advised in an interview with Fox News Digital.

Ingram addressed the growing issue of athletes receiving abusive messages from bettors after games. He reminded fans that players don't set the odds and shouldn't be targets of frustration. "Focus your energy on enjoying the game responsibly," he added.

Joe Maloney, Senior Vice President of Strategic Communications at the AGA, outlined five key principles for responsible sports betting: bet legally through licensed operators, treat it as a form of entertainment, establish and maintain a budget, understand the odds and terminology, and remain composed regardless of the outcome. He stressed the importance of not harassing athletes or officials based on the results of bets.
