A Louisiana woman with a history of alleged confidence schemes and theft is facing multiple charges after a Telemundo reporter was found deceased in his New Orleans-area hotel room during Super Bowl LIX week. The reporter, 27-year-old Adan Manzano, had been in town covering the sporting event.
Danette Colbert, 45, was identified as a suspect after hotel security footage allegedly showed her entering and leaving Manzano's room at the Comfort Suites in Kenner, Louisiana, on February 5th, the day Manzano's body was discovered. Kenner police have labeled Colbert a "career criminal." She is currently facing numerous charges, including aggravated device fraud, illegal transfer of funds, bank fraud, computer fraud, robbery, and being a fugitive.

Police Chief Keith Conley revealed that one of Manzano's credit cards was missing from his hotel room, the same card used to pay for the room. A cell phone was also missing. Authorities believe Colbert used the stolen credit card and are investigating whether Manzano was drugged. Conley stated that other individuals have contacted authorities with similar accounts involving Colbert and "suspicious deaths under similar circumstances." These claims are currently under investigation.

One such individual, David Butler, shared a victim impact statement detailing his encounter with Colbert in New Orleans in 2021. Butler alleges Colbert drugged him at a French Quarter bar, resulting in the theft of his phone, credit cards, and over $80,000 in cryptocurrency. He asserted that the justice system's handling of Colbert's prior offenses allowed her to continue victimizing others, potentially leading to Manzano's death.

Colbert’s alleged criminal activities extend beyond Louisiana. Reports indicate a history of similar incidents in Las Vegas, including two separate arrests in 2022 where men claimed she drugged and robbed them in high-end hotel rooms. In both instances, she was released on bond.

Manzano’s colleagues at Telemundo 39 described him as a dedicated professional with a bright future. His death follows another tragedy: the loss of his wife in a car accident the previous year. Further charges against Colbert may be pending the results of Manzano's autopsy.
