Intense monsoon rains have swept across Pakistan, triggering floods, claiming lives, and disrupting daily life, particularly in regions still recovering from last summer's devastating floods that impacted 33 million people and resulted in 1,739 fatalities.
Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, experienced a record-breaking 10.7 inches of rain in just nine hours, inundating streets and the city's canal. Officials noted this level of rainfall hasn't been seen in Lahore for three decades. Government officials are working to clear the floodwaters.

The current monsoon season, which officially began this week and extends until September, is predicted to bring further heavy rainfall until Saturday. The National Disaster Management Authority has issued warnings to local authorities to be prepared for potential emergencies, including floods and landslides.
The recent downpours have already caused at least two dozen fatalities across the country since last week, with six deaths reported in Lahore alone. These casualties come as Pakistan is still grappling with the aftermath of last summer's catastrophic floods, which inflicted an estimated $30 billion in damages on the nation's already strained economy. Islamabad, the nation's capital, has also experienced significant rainfall this week.
