Chilling surveillance footage from Bourbon Street obtained by Fox News Digital reveals the horrifying moment terror suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar accelerated his electric Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck towards New Year's Eve revelers at approximately 3:15 a.m. on January 1st. The video captures the near-misses as pedestrians narrowly avoided being struck by the speeding vehicle.
Authorities fatally shot Jabbar after he plowed through the crowd, resulting in the deaths of 14 people. He also opened fire on police in what has been officially designated a terrorist attack. Former NYPD Inspector and Fox News contributor, Paul Mauro, emphasized the devastating impact of such attacks, stating that a "5,000-pound vehicle traveling at high speed in a populated area is utterly destructive." He highlighted a disturbing global trend, noting the increasing use of vehicles as weapons of choice by terrorists.

Mauro pointed out that the quiet operation of electric vehicles may have been a factor in Jabbar's choice of vehicle, potentially allowing him to take more victims by surprise. A manager at a Bourbon Street fast-food establishment shared the surveillance video and recounted that the New Year's festivities had been relatively calm compared to previous years, with revelers enjoying themselves without excessive rowdiness.

Several businesses near Bourbon Street reported that temporary traffic barriers had been installed around Christmastime, as the city prepared to upgrade its permanent barriers. However, the crucial barrier at the Canal and Bourbon Street intersection was down on New Year's Eve, allowing Jabbar to bypass a police blockade and access Bourbon Street from Canal Street before the attack. Mauro acknowledged the difficulty of securing large events completely but questioned the decision to remove the barriers during such a busy period.

Kevin Scott, a restaurant employee who left work shortly before the attack, described the crowd as comparable to Mardi Gras. He later heard harrowing eyewitness accounts of the carnage. Scott expressed his shock at the number of people who returned to Bourbon Street after it reopened, noting a palpable shift in the atmosphere. He offered heartfelt condolences to the victims' families, expressing a desire for unity and a better future.

The FBI confirmed that Jabbar acted alone, motivated by ISIS ideology. Two improvised explosive devices were discovered in coolers in the French Quarter following the attack. Prior to the attack, Jabbar posted videos on Facebook declaring his allegiance to ISIS. In one video, he expressed concern that media coverage would not emphasize the conflict between believers and non-believers.
