Michigan State University has announced its plan to dedicate approximately $300,000 in donations towards the creation of a permanent memorial honoring the students who were tragically killed or injured in the February mass shooting. The memorial will be developed through a collaborative and respectful process, ensuring meaningful remembrance of the victims.
This announcement is part of the university's disclosure regarding the allocation of $2 million received by the Spartan Strong Fund. On February 13th, a gunman opened fire in two campus buildings, resulting in the death of three students and injuries to five others. The perpetrator, Anthony McRae, later took his own life miles away from the campus.

Interim President Teresa Woodruff expressed gratitude for the generous donations to the Spartan Strong Fund, emphasizing their role in aiding the community's healing process. A significant portion of the funds, around $1 million, will directly support those affected by the shooting, with a particular focus on assisting injured students in continuing their education.
Furthermore, MSU has designated funds to support individuals present in the affected classrooms at Berkey Hall and the MSU Union food court kitchen during the incident. Recognizing the varied emotional toll of the tragedy, $500,000 will be allocated to reimburse or directly cover mental health services for students, faculty, staff, and first responders. An additional $200,000 will be utilized for healing and resiliency programs through the Office for Resource and Support Coordination, further supporting the campus community and first responders.
