Carly Pearce Opens Up About Ongoing Battle with Recurrent Pericarditis

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

Country music artist Carly Pearce recently provided an update on her health journey with recurrent pericarditis, a heart condition she's been managing since 2020. In an interview on "Today," Pearce described her symptoms, which include debilitating chest pain relieved by leaning forward, shortness of breath, and a feeling of tightness in her chest. She likened the breathing difficulty to "sucking through a straw." Pericarditis involves inflammation of the pericardium, the protective sac surrounding the heart, and can cause significant discomfort.

While Pearce is currently feeling better and working towards a "new normal," she acknowledges the need for ongoing management of the condition. This includes finding a balance in her busy schedule and avoiding overexertion, particularly on days when she feels less than her best. Pearce emphasized the importance of listening to one's body, stating, "You only get one heart." She also highlighted the support she's received from her father, who has a history of heart issues, in navigating the anxiety that can accompany chest pain.

Pearce's appearance at the American Heart Association's Red Dress Collection 2025 event further underscores her commitment to raising awareness about pericarditis. She initially shared her diagnosis with fans in May 2024 on social media, explaining the need to modify her performances to manage her heart rate. At the time, she was touring with Tim McGraw. Now, on her "Hummingbird" tour, she continues to prioritize her health while inspiring others to pay attention to their bodies and seek medical attention when needed.
