A Connecticut man is facing serious charges after allegedly killing a young mother and her infant son over an unpaid debt. Lance "Macho" Morales, 23, appeared in a Hartford courtroom on Monday, facing accusations related to the November 19th drive-by shooting that claimed the lives of 20-year-old Jessiah Mercado and her 4-month-old son, Messiah Diaz.

According to reports, Morales rented his Mazda SUV to Mercado for $100 per day. An arrest warrant alleges that the shooting stemmed from a dispute over a $400 debt Mercado owed for using the vehicle. A witness reportedly told authorities that Morales was informed the infant was in the car before the shooting, but he expressed indifference. Two other individuals were present in the vehicle during the incident; one sustained injuries.

The arrest warrant suggests Morales' weapon was fully automatic. After a four-day manhunt, he was apprehended in Puerto Rico on November 23rd and subsequently extradited back to Connecticut.

Morales is currently being held on a $5 million bail and faces multiple charges, including two counts of murder and assault. If found guilty, he could face life imprisonment without parole.
