Following a recent car accident and subsequent arrest, Alex Galchenyuk has been released by the Arizona Coyotes. Reports indicate that after crashing his vehicle into a sign, Galchenyuk exhibited erratic behavior towards law enforcement, allegedly making threats against officers and their families. He reportedly invoked potential connections in Russia, claiming he could have them killed with a single phone call. According to the police report, Galchenyuk also threatened physical violence against an officer and his family. He is also accused of using a racial slur towards a trainee officer. Despite reportedly claiming he was joking, these actions led to his swift release from the team.

This incident occurred a mere 12 days after Galchenyuk signed a one-year contract with the Coyotes, marking his third stint with the organization. He previously played for them during the 2018-2019 and 2021-2022 seasons. Drafted third overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2012, Galchenyuk's career has been marked by several team changes in recent years. In just the past five seasons, he has played for the Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, and two AHL teams.
