Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe was arrested on Tuesday following a protest at a Huntington Beach, California City Council meeting. The demonstration stemmed from a proposed library sign displaying the words "Magical," "Alluring," "Galvanizing," and "Adventurous," which when combined spell out MAGA. The sign also included the phrase, "Through hope and change our nation has built back better to the golden era of Making America Great Again!"

Kluwe, captured on video, addressed the council, criticizing the MAGA slogan, often linked to former President Donald Trump's campaign, referring to it as a "Nazi movement." The Huntington Beach City Council comprises seven Republican members.
Declaring his intent to engage in "peaceful civil disobedience," Kluwe approached the council members seated at the front. Footage from HB Protect on X shows officers swiftly apprehending Kluwe, who was placed face down on the floor as onlookers cheered. The official City Council feed was interrupted before the incident unfolded fully. Three officers subsequently escorted Kluwe from the premises.

Charged with disrupting an assembly, Kluwe was released approximately four hours later, according to the Orange County Register. He expressed his concern that the plaque served as "propaganda" rather than a commemoration of the library's 50th anniversary.
Kluwe, 43, spent eight seasons with the Vikings (2005-2012) and had brief stints with the then-Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks. He has been a vocal critic of homophobia within the NFL and a proponent of same-sex marriage and LGBTQ+ rights. He alleges his outspoken views on same-sex marriage led to his dismissal from the Vikings.
