A Florida couple has been taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty after authorities discovered their Beverly Hills residence in a shocking state of disrepair. The home was reportedly filled with garbage, feces, and urine, creating an unsafe environment for both the couple's two children and their thirteen pets.

Michael Clayton Howey, 36, and Brenda Darla Howey, 37, were arrested on Wednesday following a complaint from Code Enforcement officials who were investigating the accumulation of debris outside the property. Citrus County Sheriff’s deputies, accompanied by Animal Control officers, responded to the scene and encountered the Howeys, who confirmed they resided in the home with their children, ten dogs, and three cats.

Upon entering the residence, law enforcement was immediately overwhelmed by a strong ammonia odor and encountered hazardous conditions. Dried feces and urine were reportedly found throughout the house, posing a significant health risk. The children were observed with fecal matter on their feet, highlighting the extent of the unsanitary conditions. The laundry room was particularly impacted, described as being covered in waste and clutter.

Sheriff Mike Prendergast expressed his disgust at the situation, emphasizing the importance of providing safe living conditions for both children and animals. He commended the collaborative efforts of the animal control unit and code enforcement in addressing this case of neglect. The children have been placed in the care of family friends, while the animals have been taken to the Citrus County Animal Shelter to receive appropriate care.
