A Michigan man accused of murder, who escaped custody in Montana over the weekend, has been apprehended. Chadwick Shane Mobley, 42, was taken back into custody in Plains, Montana, on Monday evening. Mobley had escaped while being transported by a private contractor working for the U.S. Marshals Service on Sunday.
Plains, a town of approximately 1,000 residents, is nestled in a mountainous region near the Lolo National Forest. Following Mobley's escape, local authorities advised residents to take precautionary measures such as locking their homes and vehicles. There was uncertainty about whether Mobley had remained in the vicinity until his capture.

Mobley is facing charges related to the 2011 death of Andrea Eilber in Lapeer, Michigan. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced last week that Mobley would be charged with felony murder and other offenses upon his return to Michigan. Eilber was fatally shot, and advanced DNA analysis conducted last year connected Mobley to the crime scene.
Mobley, who had been residing in Utah, reportedly fled to Montana after being questioned by investigators. His initial arrest took place on June 28th in Libby, Montana, approximately 70 miles from Plains. The circumstances surrounding his escape, including how he managed to remove his handcuffs and shackles, remain unclear. The U.S. Marshals Service aided in the search, and Montana law enforcement collaborated with Michigan authorities throughout the investigation.
