Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

During a 17-minute monologue on Saturday Night Live, comedian Dave Chappelle addressed President-elect Donald Trump, offering him well wishes while also urging him to improve his conduct in office. Chappelle emphasized the importance of the presidency, stating, "The presidency isn't a place for pettiness. Donald Trump, I know you watch this show. Everyone is relying on you, regardless of whether they voted for you or not. It's crucial to remember that."

Chappelle's message continued with a plea for unity and empathy. He said, "I genuinely wish you good luck. Please, strive to do better. Let's all strive to do better. We must not lose sight of our shared humanity and must extend empathy to those who are displaced, whether they are in affluent communities or regions like Palestine."

This wasn't Chappelle's first time addressing a newly elected Trump on SNL. He hosted the show following Trump's 2016 victory, offering Trump a chance and demanding one in return for the historically disenfranchised. He also hosted after the 2020 election, when Joe Biden won, making jokes about Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic.
