In a dramatic turn of events, two firefighters undertaking a rescue mission in a New Jersey river found themselves in need of rescuing after their boat went over a waterfall. The incident unfolded Wednesday afternoon in the Passaic River as the Clifton firefighters were assisting three individuals stranded in two boats near Dundee Dam. As they approached, the firefighters' boat unexpectedly plunged over the falls, leaving two of the three crew members trapped in the partially submerged vessel amidst strong currents. The third firefighter managed to escape before the boat went over.

New Jersey Helicopter Rescue

A New Jersey State Police helicopter swiftly arrived at the scene, initiating a daring rescue operation. One firefighter was quickly hoisted to safety from approximately 100 feet below the helicopter. The second rescue presented more challenges, but ultimately the second firefighter was also successfully extracted from the turbulent waters.

Authorities reported no injuries in either rescue. The individuals the firefighters were initially attempting to rescue were contractors working on an upstream construction project.
