Following the release of the first Israeli hostages as part of a ceasefire agreement, sources have revealed to Fox News Digital that several captured Hamas members confessed to holding Israeli captives at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) recently conducted a significant operation at the hospital, apprehending approximately 240 suspected terrorists. Israeli authorities assert that the hospital's director, Hussam Abu Safiya, not only permitted Hamas to operate within the hospital but actively collaborated with the terrorist organization. One captured individual, Anas Muhammad Faiz al-Sharif, a cleaning supervisor at the hospital who joined Hamas's Al-Qassam Brigades in 2021, disclosed that the hospital was considered a safe haven due to the perceived unlikelihood of direct Israeli military action.
Al-Sharif revealed that grenades, mortars, and ambush equipment were stored within the hospital. The IDF also reported finding weapons, classified documents, and communication equipment at the site, indicating its use as a command center.

A World Health Organization (WHO) spokesman, when questioned about the allegations of hostage-holding at the hospital, reiterated the protected status of healthcare facilities under International Humanitarian Law but stopped short of directly condemning Hamas. Richard Goldberg, a senior advisor at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, criticized international organizations operating in Gaza, suggesting they were aware of Hamas's activities and only protested Israeli intervention. He recommended that incoming U.N. Ambassador Elise Stefanik investigate these organizations.

Over 700 suspected terrorists, including Hamas commanders and individuals involved in hostage-taking, were detained during the IDF's northern Gaza operation. Thousands of weapons were also seized and destroyed. Former Shin Bet agent Gonen Ben Itzhak explained the methods used to gather intelligence on Hamas activities within the hospital.

Approximately 950 individuals were evacuated from the hospital before the final IDF raid, and the hospital's operations were transferred to the nearby Indonesian Hospital. Despite international condemnation of Israel's actions, a former Palestinian Authority official, Adnan al-Damiri, criticized Hamas's use of hospitals, emphasizing the risks posed to patients and staff.

In late 2023, the former director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Ahmed Kahlout, reportedly admitted to being a Hamas operative and described how the organization utilized ambulances for various purposes, including transporting terrorists and a kidnapped IDF soldier. A Hamas representative, Basem Naim, denied the allegations, asserting that Hamas respects international law and does not use hospitals for military purposes. He also demanded the release of Dr. Abu Safiya.

Following the October 2023 Hamas attacks, the IDF released evidence of Hamas using hospitals, particularly Shifa Hospital, for military purposes, including storing fuel and weapons. The IDF also released footage of armed terrorists bringing hostages into Shifa Hospital, where the remains of two Israeli hostages were later discovered.
