MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski has expressed strong disapproval of President Biden's staff and Secret Service for their perceived failure to avert public incidents where the president has fallen or appeared disoriented.
During a recent episode of "Morning Joe," Brzezinski and co-host Joe Scarborough addressed concerns surrounding Biden's age and its potential impact on the 2024 election. While acknowledging these concerns, Brzezinski placed the blame on Biden's team for allowing such situations to occur and fuel public anxieties about his fitness for office.
Brzezinski specifically referenced Biden's fall during a commencement ceremony at the U.S. Air Force Academy in June, where he tripped over a sandbag. Although the White House reported that Biden was unharmed, the incident quickly gained widespread attention and sparked renewed discussion about his age.
Brzezinski argued that Biden's staff should take responsibility for his age and implement measures to prevent such incidents. She emphasized the importance of carefully managing the president's schedule and ensuring his safety, especially during public appearances. She stated, "If you are managing a president’s schedule… and yes, he’s 80, you need to be there for him, and you need to make a pathway. And you sure as hell better make sure he doesn’t fall on a sandbag."
She further criticized the staff for failing to recognize the negative impact these incidents have on public perception. She asserted that such videos are often replayed repeatedly and can damage the president's image. She urged the staff to "do a better job" and prevent such occurrences, saying, "You can’t have these video images of the president tripping, or the president, like, going the wrong way. It’s not going to work in this presidency, because his age is going to be a factor."
Brzezinski also shared her personal experience of feeling nervous during public speaking engagements and occasionally needing guidance on stage. She emphasized that it's the staff's responsibility to ensure the president's smooth transitions and prevent any missteps, stating, "He can handle the presidency. You have to handle his schedule and where he goes."
Brzezinski's comments come amid growing concerns about Biden's age and fitness for office, particularly in light of several public stumbles. A recent poll indicated that a majority of registered voters believe Biden is too old to serve another term.
