A surprising sight greeted beachgoers in Destin, Florida, on a sunny June afternoon. A young black bear decided to join the fun, taking a refreshing dip in the Gulf of Mexico alongside surprised swimmers and sunbathers.
Videos circulating on social media captured the unexpected visitor frolicking in the waves and running along the shoreline. Witness Steffani Saddler described the scene to FOX35 Orlando, expressing her shock at seeing a bear swimming amongst the crowd.

Capt. Frank Merrell, returning from a dive trip, initially mistook the animal for a dog. He shared his astonishment with FOX35, admitting his surprise at realizing it was, in fact, a bear.

After its brief ocean adventure, the bear emerged from the water, dashing past beach chairs and disappearing into the surrounding area. Its final destination remains unknown.

While black bears are common throughout Florida, they typically prefer forested areas with ample vegetation and seasonal food sources. This unusual beach visit highlights the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters.
