Army Soldier's Suicide and Cybertruck Explosion in Las Vegas: Unraveling the Events

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Newly released surveillance footage sheds light on the events leading up to the tragic Cybertruck explosion outside Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. The videos capture Army soldier Matthew Livelsberger, 37, driving the rented electric vehicle shortly before the incident. Investigators are working to determine the motive behind his suicide and the subsequent detonation of the truck.

The first video shows Livelsberger calmly driving the Cybertruck away from the hotel's valet area. According to Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill, he then visited various locations on the Las Vegas Strip before returning to the Trump International Hotel. A second video, recorded from inside the hotel, captures the moment the truck explodes, sending flames and fireworks skyward.

The explosion, which injured seven bystanders, resulted from gasoline, camp fuel, and large firework mortars inside the truck. Remarkably, the hotel's glass doors remained undamaged. Authorities discovered two firearms (both legally purchased), fireworks, personal documents, and electronic devices among the debris.

Livelsberger, a master sergeant on leave from his deployment in Germany with the 10th Special Forces Group, had an extensive military career beginning in 2006. Experts find the level of sophistication in the explosion unusual given his military background. The FBI is investigating potential terror links, though none have been confirmed.
