The New York Yankees' subpar defensive performance in the 2024 World Series significantly contributed to their loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers capitalized on these errors, ultimately securing the championship title in the Bronx. Following their victory, several Dodgers players openly highlighted the Yankees' mistakes as a key factor in their triumph.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged these remarks as spring training commenced. While admitting that his players were understandably bothered by the comments, Boone conceded the Dodgers' right to express themselves as champions.

Reports indicated that the Dodgers had meticulously analyzed the Yankees' defensive and baserunning weaknesses, which played a crucial role in their 4-1 series win. Boone, speaking to Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay on ESPN New York radio, expressed his displeasure with the Dodgers' comments, hoping the Yankees would exhibit more grace if they found themselves in a similar winning position in the future.

In subsequent remarks to reporters in Tampa, Boone acknowledged the Yankees' subpar performance in the series, simply stating, "We didn’t play our best… and they won." Adding to the Yankees' woes, they lost Juan Soto to the rival New York Mets during free agency. However, the Yankees made significant off-season moves, acquiring Cy Young contender Max Fried, 2022 NL MVP Paul Goldschmidt, and bolstering their bullpen with closer Devin Williams. They also added former NL MVP Cody Bellinger to their roster.
