Amidst the impending shutdown of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), an anonymous employee has voiced concerns about potential data breaches and the psychological impact of recent actions by Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In an interview with CBS' "Face the Nation," the employee expressed fear that personal information, including social security numbers and contact details, has been compromised due to DOGE's access to USAID systems.
The employee's anxiety stems from the uncertainty surrounding who has access to sensitive data and the potential misuse of this information. They described an atmosphere of fear and insecurity within USAID, with employees unsure of whom to trust and how to interpret recent executive orders. The uncertainty surrounding the agency's future has further exacerbated these concerns.

The employee also expressed anger and disappointment at Elon Musk's characterization of USAID as a "criminal organization" and a "viper’s nest." They criticized Musk for seemingly taking unilateral action to withdraw aid from those in need.
Further reports indicate that a significant portion of USAID staff has lost access to critical systems, including those related to travel, communication, and classified information. This has raised concerns about the agency's ability to function effectively, especially in emergency situations. A separate source within USAID described feeling abandoned by the government and expressed concerns about the agency being "hostilely taken over by DOGE."

Despite the Trump administration's efforts to shut down the agency, a federal judge recently blocked the attempt to place thousands of USAID employees on leave. This legal intervention offers a temporary reprieve, but the future of USAID and its employees remains uncertain.
