Kenyan President William Ruto recently awarded distance runner Faith Kipyegon a house and $35,000 for her remarkable achievement of breaking two world records within a single week. Kipyegon, who met with Ruto at the presidential office, shared her intention to use some of the reward to fulfill a promise to her father – buying him a new car.

The 29-year-old Kipyegon, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 1,500 meters, first shattered the eight-year-old 1,500-meter world record held by Ethiopia's Genzebe Dibaba in Florence, Italy on June 2nd. Her astonishing time of 3:49.11 made her the first woman to run the distance in under 3 minutes and 50 seconds.

Just days later, on June 9th, Kipyegon broke the 5,000-meter world record at the Paris Diamond League meet, clocking in at 14:05.20. This victory placed her ahead of the former world record holder, Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia.

President Ruto praised Kipyegon, stating, "Faith has brought immense pride to Kenya. She embodies consistency, discipline, hard work, and family values. She's a remarkable Kenyan woman—a mother, a wife, and a world champion all in one." Ruto also committed to providing similar rewards to future Kenyan athletes who break world records.
