Shortly after receiving a 25-game suspension from the NBA for brandishing what appeared to be a handgun on social media for a second time, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant was reportedly seen in another video with what seemed to be a toy gun. The video, obtained by TMZ, shows an arm with tattoos matching Morant's holding the item. The individual in the video uses the apparent toy gun to light candles before seemingly saying, "You hold it, and everything comes out."
This incident follows Morant's eight-game suspension in March for a similar incident where he displayed a handgun during an Instagram Live stream from a Denver nightclub. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver expressed concern over the repeated behavior, questioning whether the authenticity of the weapon should matter given the reckless nature of the act. He deemed Morant's actions "alarming and disconcerting" and emphasized the league's intolerance for such irresponsible behavior, particularly given its potential influence on young people.
Following the announcement of the 25-game suspension, Morant issued a statement expressing remorse for his actions and apologizing to the NBA, the Grizzlies organization, his teammates, the city of Memphis, and his fans. He acknowledged the harm he caused and pledged to be a better role model and representative for his sponsors. The two-time All-Star averaged 26.2 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds last season.
