Former Houston Police Officer Fired After Allegedly Shooting Wife in the Face

A Houston police officer has been dismissed from the force following an incident where he allegedly shot his wife in the face with a rifle. The officer, Galib Waheed Chowdhury, 31, was arrested on June 12th and faces charges of aggravated assault of a family member with bodily harm. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on June 12th at an apartment complex on Clay Road. Responding officers found Chowdhury's wife, Sadaf Iqbal, with gunshot wounds to her face and hand.

Iqbal was immediately taken to a local hospital for emergency surgery. The Houston Police Department confirmed Chowdhury's involvement in the shooting and his subsequent arrest. The department officially terminated Chowdhury's employment on Tuesday. In a statement, they expressed their support for Iqbal and her family, urging the community to keep them in their prayers. The case is currently under investigation by the Houston Police Department Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s office.
