Former CNN anchor Don Lemon recently spoke out against companies that have reduced their public support for the LGBTQ+ community in response to conservative pressure. During the 7th annual Native Son Awards in New York City, Lemon seemingly targeted companies like Target and Bud Light, which scaled back LGBTQ+ themed products and marketing following customer boycotts.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, which celebrated "Black Gay Excellence," Lemon highlighted what he views as concerning trends against the LGBTQ+ community. He cited over 520 anti-LGBTQ+ legislative measures introduced across various states this year, with many focusing on transgender and non-binary individuals. These bills address issues such as gender-affirming care for youth and public drag performances. Several states, including Tennessee and Florida, have enacted legislation restricting gender-reassignment procedures for minors and regulating public drag shows to limit children's exposure.
Lemon also addressed the issue of "book bans," arguing that efforts to remove certain books from schools and libraries are rooted in anti-Black, transphobic, and homophobic sentiments. He then criticized corporations for removing Pride-related merchandise and displays, accusing them of issuing hollow statements about respecting the LGBTQ+ community while simultaneously bowing to pressure from a "bigoted minority." Lemon urged companies to prioritize "justice and equality" over appeasing such groups.

Lemon, who was dismissed from CNN in April following a series of on-air incidents, encouraged the audience to resist these perceived attacks. He declared that regardless of the number of bills introduced, the LGBTQ+ community will not be erased.
